The 1st Pan-Eurasian Experiment (PEEX) Science Conference & The 5th PEEX Meeting
Helsinki, Finland 10-13 February 2015

1st PEEX Science Conference & 5th PEEX Meeting is open for all scientists interested in research on grand challenges and climate change. The goal of the 1st PEEX Science Conference is to bring professional and scientific experts together under research themes relate to atmosphere – land ecosystems – aquatic - anthropogenic activities – Northern societies in the Northern Pan-Eurasian region. The 5th PEEX Meeting is aimed is take the next steps for PEEX implementation. The PEEX vision includes establishing and maintaining long-term, coherent and coordinated research activities and research and educational infrastructures across the PEEX domain.

1st PEEX Science Conference will focus on grand challenges in the Arctic – boreal region including:

  1. Shifting vegetation zones and Arctic greening
  2. Permafrost and consequences of permafrost thawing
  3. Structural changes in the ecosystems
  4. Atmospheric composition and chemistry
  5. Urban air quality and megacities
  6. Planetary boundary layer in the changing climate
  7. Weather and atmospheric circulation
  8. Role of the Arctic Ocean in the climate system
  9. The Arctic maritime environments
  10. Lakes, wetlands and large river systems in Siberian region
  11. Anthropogenic impacts on atmosphere and on ecosystems
  12. Natural hazards
  13. Social transformations and climate change
  14. Biogeochemical cycles

The 5th PEEX Meeting will address

  1. coherent, coordinated Pan-Eurasian in-situ observation network incl. satellite observations and coordinated data systems
  2. PEEX Modelling platform
  3. international collaboration (ESFRI; GEOSS; SAON) , and
  4. PEEX training and education activities
  5. funding opportunities
